Boca Raton Mercury-Free Dentist

Problems with Mercury in Fillings

Most dentists were trained in dental school to place mostly amalgam fillings, which are generally called silver fillings. An analysis of their content shows that they are about 50 percent mercury and have more mercury in them than silver.

As more alternative filling materials have become available, people are becoming concerned about having restorative materials placed permanently in their mouth when those materials have substantial amounts of mercury in them. Mercury, after all, is a toxic metal. What makes it of particular concern is that once it is deposited in body tissues, it is difficult to get rid of. And the nerve damage that mercury causes is so subtle that it could be attributed to simple aging.

Dr. Kagan is a Mercury-Free Dentist

Dr. David Kagan of Boca Raton doesn't use any mercury-containing restorative materials. There are two excellent options that you can read about: white composite fillings or ceramic fillings, and gold fillings. Both of them have several strong advantages over mercury-containing amalgam fillings.

For patients who want their amalgams removed, we can provide that service. One concern that comes up is that in the process of removing these restorations, a lot of dust and debris is created, and many people worry about ingesting or breathing that material. There are hygienic mercury-removal techniques that can be used to eliminate any of this exposure. Ask us about them.

Some would call Dr. Kagan a holistic Boca Raton dentist, because he is tuned in to the need to avoid toxic materials for restorative procedures.
